Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was established as the institute of Civil Engineering in British India in 1847 at Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. The institute is one of the oldest universities in Asia and placed among the top most IITs in India. The university consists of 24 academic departments in various programs. The institute earned 369 positions in the QS World ranking 2023.
IIT Roorkee has a huge campus of 25 acres in Saharanpur and a new campus of 10 acres in greater Noida. It has 16 hostels and most of the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students live in hostels. There are 9 hostels for married and foreign students.
