Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a public research university established in 1959 at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The institute was founded with the help of a consortium of nine US research universities as part of the Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP).
The university campus is located on the G.T Road, 15 km away from Kanpur city, area acquired 420 hectares of land. The institute consists of about 6000 students including 4000 undergraduate and 2500 postgraduate students and about 500 research associates.
